A slightly nostalgic (albeit emotionally nullified), high-intensity mixture of low-intensity techno tracks, from an era of what could be perceived as slightly prior to the present. Inspired by situations and people of yesteryear - the fatalist feeling of saudade.

Links to software for creative motives. Typically programs such as software synthesisers, video processing applications and the like.

There are a growing number of  free, open source applications which are viable alternatives to priced software. For those who don't know what open source means in it's entirety, look here.

# Web Link
1   Link   Supercollider
Audio programming.
2   Link   PureData
Open Source multimedia patching environment developed by Miller Puckette (basically the open fork of Max (the closed, commercialised fork being Max/Msp)).
3   Link   Csound
Amazingly versatile audio language, developed as a direct descendant of Max Matthew's Music V line. Similar/identical syntax to SAOL/MPEG4 structured audio.
4   Link   SAOL
Mpeg 4 structured audio language - influenced by Csound syntax and supported directly by MP4 codecs. Sadly the project seems defunct as of 2002.
5   Link   Debian
Linux is probably the best operating system ever (discounting high-enders like QNX).
Debian is probably the best flavour of linux ever. Get it now and change your life.
6   Link   Ubuntu Studio
Ubuntu has proved a hit, bringing Linux to the masses. Ubuntu Studio builds on the stability and well-supported nature of standard Ubuntu, but includes a shedload of multimedia applications, as well as the realtime Linux kernel - which makes a great difference with latency etc.
7   Link   Condorow
Excellent resource for open source signal processing and computer music software (mainly Linux).
8   Link   Princeton Software
Applications for download from Princeton University - some great classics there such as Cmix, Marsyas, STK and ChucK
9   Link   FreqTweak
Nice graphical application for realtime spectral/time manipulation.
10   Link   Cinelerra
Open source video compositor & editor. Obviously not as high end as Shake for example, but shows that open source video production is really steaming ahead.
11   Link   Linux Sound dot Org
Slightly sickening and intimidating resource of seemingly endless open source audio progs.
12   Link   FFMpeg
No other video converter required ever. Just get ffmpeg. Stable to professional standard. Insanely versatile.
13   Link   Audacity
Not a bad open source editor, but a bit clunky compared to proprietary opponents. Try SND instead if you want a challenge!!
14   Link   SND
Probably the harshest non linear sound editor out there.
15   Link   Planet CCRMA
Stanford University's bespoke set of audio/multimedia Linux packages for Fedora.
16   Link   Ceres 3
Nice harshcore deferred time spectral manipulation.
17   Link   FScape
Cross platform audio rendering...
18   Link   Meloncillo
Spacial composition interface.
19   Link   The NoTAM Apps
Norwegian network for technology, acoustics and music.
20   Link   Linux Video
All about motion picture workflow in a Linux environment.
