Audio

'Projekat Kuttup' started life as an experiment into a signal processing technique which could be described as 'manual granular resynthesis'. This involves strategically cutting source audio into segments and manually rearranging them in a pattern, as opposed to standard granular (re)synthesis, which can be done (fairly) easily by entering a few variables into an application such as Grainmaker or Csound. The main advantage of my manual technique is that it is vastly more precise than computerised granulation, the drawback being that it demands much time and thought.

The projec(-c,+ka)t was first implemented on harmonic audio attained from a digital synthesiser, but interesting results were achieved from rhythmic noise, speech and some of my own recordings. However, some of the most prominent sounds are derived from digital data, such as applications and even picture files. Cool Edit Pro was essentially the platform for the experiment to be built around, as it offers some of the best time-domain editing tools I've seen available for Windows.

During production, Projekat Kuttup was designed for CD. 99 tracks were constructed so that they would flow into each other without any gaps. However, the beta-testing stage of the product found that some of the tracks were too short for many CD players to handle, resulting in patches of silence. The second beta release proved to be much more as intended, and is available for a nominal fee. email me
